China and Uzbekistan have committed to enhancing their collaboration in infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and trade, following Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s official visit to Uzbekistan. The two-day visit in Tashkent involved meetings with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, culminating in several cooperation agreements.

A significant focus of the agreements is the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, aimed at boosting regional connectivity and economic development. Both nations have pledged to advance this project, with China encouraging its companies to invest in Uzbekistan. In turn, Uzbekistan has promised a favorable business environment for Chinese investors.

Further areas of cooperation include energy, mineral resources, modern agriculture, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and environmental protection. China has also expressed interest in importing more high-quality Uzbek products while supporting Uzbekistan’s access to the Chinese market.

Bilateral trade between China and Uzbekistan reached $16.1 billion last year, a 17.9 percent increase from the previous year, solidifying China’s position as Uzbekistan’s largest trading partner. The leaders of both countries emphasized the importance of strengthening political trust, expanding investment, and promoting cultural, educational, and tourism exchanges.

Moreover, they committed to enhancing coordination on regional and international issues, further developing their strategic partnership, and reinforcing their dedication to shared goals in climate, media, and poverty reduction.
