Rupert Grint will once again embrace his iconic role as Ron Weasley, this time in the Broadway rendition of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” This return comes more than ten years after the Harry Potter film series concluded, with Grint scheduled to join the cast for a 17-week stint starting in February 2027. Grint, who portrayed Ron in all eight films alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, expressed his excitement at revisiting the character. “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life,” he said, noting that portraying Ron as a father, while he himself is a father, lends a fresh yet familiar feeling to the experience.
Grint’s return to the world of Harry Potter comes on the heels of Tom Felton reprising his role as Draco Malfoy on the same Broadway stage. Felton’s run will continue until January. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” first premiered in London in 2016 and has since expanded to various international productions. The play has been a significant success, selling over 14 million tickets worldwide, with the New York production alone generating more than $532 million in revenue.
This Broadway engagement marks Grint’s return to the stage after making his debut in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play.” Since wrapping up the Harry Potter films, Grint has diversified his acting portfolio with roles in productions such as “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.”
