Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored the importance of ecological conservation and sustainable green development during a recent visit to Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia. His inspection highlighted ongoing efforts in wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and the development of environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.

During his tour of the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi observed the progress made to rejuvenate the lake, which has faced the threat of drying up due to various pressures, including climate change. Conservation initiatives have been successful in restoring and expanding the lake’s water body over the years. Xi emphasized the need for strict adherence to China’s wetland protection law, stressing the importance of safeguarding biodiversity and maintaining ecological protection boundaries. He advocated for the prioritization of natural restoration in degraded wetlands, with scientific interventions as necessary.

Xi’s visit also included a stop at the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone, where he reviewed advancements in China’s “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This program aims to optimize the distribution of computing resources across the country. Xi highlighted the necessity for the efficient operation of completed projects and urged the completion of ongoing developments according to schedule. He called on authorities and industry leaders to foster computing infrastructure that is efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe, thereby bolstering China’s digital economy and supporting sustainable development.

During his visit, Xi also took time to evaluate local agricultural and livestock products. He encouraged officials to enhance the connection between production and market access to boost the incomes of farmers and herders.
