China’s foreign trade has shown significant momentum during the initial eight months of the year, with the total value of imports and exports reaching an impressive 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a robust 17.6% increase compared to the same period the previous year. The breakdown of this growth reveals that exports surged by 14.6%, amounting to 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports saw an even higher rise of 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan.

August marked a particularly strong month for trade, with imports and exports of goods surging by 19.8% year-on-year, reaching 4.65 trillion yuan. During this month, exports grew by 18.6%, while imports experienced a notable increase of 21.7%. This continued the trend of accelerated trade growth observed throughout the year.

For four consecutive months, both exports and imports have consistently achieved double-digit year-on-year growth, highlighting the resilience and dynamism of China’s foreign trade. Notably, import growth has outpaced export growth for the past six months, underscoring a shift in trade dynamics.

The sustained increase in imports, surpassing that of exports, reflects China’s strong domestic demand and its ongoing efforts to balance trade. This trend is indicative of the broader economic strategies being implemented to enhance the nation’s trade performance and economic resilience.
