On Wednesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping led a ceremony in Beijing to honor the nation’s martyrs, underscoring the importance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives for China’s independence and prosperity. The event took place at Tian’anmen Square, marking the annual observance of Martyrs’ Day on September 30, just one day before China’s National Day.

During the ceremony, Xi and other senior leaders, along with representatives from various sectors of Chinese society, gathered to pay tribute. The national anthem was played, followed by a moment of silence. Nine large flower baskets were presented at the Monument to the People’s Heroes, a symbol of gratitude for the sacrifices made by these national heroes.

Martyrs’ Day has been officially observed since 2014, with Xi attending the ceremony each year. The event coincided with two significant anniversaries for China: the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 90th anniversary of the conclusion of the Long March, which occurred from 1934 to 1936. These historical milestones highlight the enduring legacy of those who fought for China’s development and the establishment of the Communist Party.

The ceremony serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to honor and preserve the memories of those who have contributed to the country’s growth and success. As China commemorates these pivotal moments in its history, the annual Martyrs’ Day observance remains a central event in the nation’s calendar, reflecting a commitment to remembering and respecting its past.
