China and US Agree to Reduce Tariffs on $30 Billion in Goods

by admin477351

China and the United States have agreed to lower tariffs on approximately $30 billion worth of goods from each country, marking a significant step in their efforts to ease trade tensions. This agreement was reached following the latest round of economic and trade consultations between the two nations.

Under the terms of the agreement, tariffs on about 90% of the affected products will be reduced to most-favoured-nation rates. The reductions will be implemented simultaneously once both countries have completed their respective domestic procedures. This move is expected to foster better trade relations and economic collaboration between the two major economies.

In addition to the tariff reductions, both countries have decided to extend their existing economic and trade arrangement from November 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027. This extension allows more time for negotiations on a longer-term agreement that could potentially address other trade-related issues.

To further strengthen bilateral trade discussions, China and the US will establish a Board of Trade. This initiative is complemented by the creation of an agricultural working group that will focus on market access and regulatory issues. The establishment of a bilateral investment board is also in the works to discuss investment opportunities, trade barriers, and policy transparency.

Moreover, both nations will continue their dialogue on artificial intelligence, with another round of talks slated before the end of November. A new communication channel will be set up to manage AI-related incidents, reflecting the importance of addressing technological advancements and their implications.
